Kokane Salmon Run

A couple of weekends ago we went to breakfast at Daniel's Summit. We had a nice breakfast and we got to see Grandma Hill. She gave the kids each a Webkins from the gift shop. (You can imagine how fun it is for them to see Grandma at the gift shop. She pretty much always gives them something). After that we went out to the visitors center at Strawberry where the Salmon Run was taking place. We had no idea we would see more than just the fish! Smokey the Bear was there as well as some really neat birds to see. Barn Owls and Ravens as well as lots of little toys and stuff for the kids. After the Salmon Run we drove out to the Dam at Strawberry and skipped rocks into the lake.

This is a male Salmon as the guy explained to us. The big hump is characteristic of the males. The female Salmon don't have the hump.

Here is Cecily getting a turn to see what the fish feels like.

After they make the swim up the river they end up here at the fish trap where the eggs are taken. When the new fish hatch they are put back into Strawberry and other Utah lakes. The adult fish naturally die after this process (as they would in the wild).

Bentley and Smokey again. Amazingly this is the first time Bentley would willingly take a picture with a character. I guess he likes Smokey. Take that Chucky Cheese and all of the Disney princesses.
