What an eye sore. Seriously.
When we first moved in to our house 7 years ago we were the first house in the entire subdivision. Our street stayed vacant for a couple years with ours being the only house. The post master would not allow us to put up a mailbox in the grass on the other side of the sidewalk because then he would have to "dismount" his vehicle to deliver the mail. (He really did use the word "dismount" as if he would be delivering the mail on horseback). So he suggested placing it on the sidewalk.
Putting the mailbox inside of a bucket of cement was our solution. Ugly but it worked.
When others started building homes on our street and moving in they followed suit in the mailbox arena. Now we have a street full of bucket cement mailboxes. Thanks to the mailman that did not want to "dismount" his vehicle.
Our mailbox has been knocked over quite a few times by big windstorms or by four wheeler snowplows in the winter time. Because of this the bucket cracked and eventually we just took it off. This picture is what it looks like today in all its glory.

That is so funny! I think it's awesome that everyone followed suit with their mailboxes...you're such a trend-setter Cher!
